If you haven’t been to the Napa Valley during harvest, here is one more incentive: our second annual harvest party on September 28, 2013 at our sister winery, Nickel & Nickel. We admit, Napa Valley is a wonderful place to visit year around, but the months of September and October are two of the most exciting. The valley is full of activity—the wonderful sights, sounds and smells of harvest. It’s not to be missed!

We are celebrating the season with current vintages of Nickel & Nickel’s single-vineyard wines, as well as a few surprises from the cellar paired with live music and hors d’oeuvres. Behind-the-scenes harvest tours will give you an inside peek at the care given each vineyard. The event is planned for 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., so make reservations at your favorite nearby restaurant and join us for appetizers and wine!
If you haven’t already RSVP’d, you will want to do so right away as this event will sell out. Click here or call (707) 967-9600 for more information. We look forward to seeing you!

Last Saturday marked our annual Chardonnay Celebration! It was one of those resplendent, sun-soaked days that will be reminisced upon with a warm smile and a slight twinkle of the eye. Our centuries-old winery was alive with the sounds of laughter between friends, music from a spectacular live band, and an all-around infectious joviality — truly living up to the spirit of "Il Dolce Far Niente". It gives us great pleasure to be able to open our doors to both new and familiar faces, to pour our lovingly crafted wines, and most importantly, to set the scenery for memories that won't be soon forgotten.
Mini pizzas were on the menu for the day — to the left, caramelized onions, kalamata olives, and blue cheese. To the right, shaved proscuitto, fresh mozzarella, romesco sauce, and basil chiffonade.
Amongst the various wines poured at last Saturday’s event were two very special vintages: 1987 and 1986 Far Niente Chardonnay, both aged to a gorgeous, deep honey hue.
Thanks again to all of our dear friends who joined us for this year's Chardonnay Celebration!
You are cordially invited to a spectacular evening celebrating the art of life during Napa Valley Festival del Sole 2013. Join us Saturday, July 20, for a star-studded performance of The 24 Hour Plays, followed by dinner at Far Niente with a dynamic concert by Frederica von Stade. Through our partnership with Festival del Sole, we are delighted to offer our wine club members VIP evening passes for $500 each ($150 off the full-ticket price).
The evening begins at Yountville's Lincoln Theater for a performance of at The 24 Hour Plays. Watch what happens when actors, writers, directors and producers are given just 24 hours to create and rehearse short original plays and perform them in front of a live theater audience. This year’s award-winning cast includes Academy Award nominee Alfre Woodard, four-time Emmy winner Allison Janney, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Calista Flockhart, Christopher Meloni and Chazz Palminteri.
Afterwards, join the cast, festival patrons and fellow wine club members at Far Niente for a lavish dinner and private concert. Overlooking the pond and vineyards, dine on Executive Chef Trevor Eliason’s cuisine paired with Far Niente estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The evening concludes with an intimate performance by Frederica von Stade, one of the world’s most celebrated vocalists, plus a special surprise from the cast of The 24 Hour Plays.

Saturday was one for the record books. We’ve partnered with Live in the Vineyard for several years and were delighted to continue our connection with the organization this past weekend when we hosted them for a reception and special performance in the Carriage House.
A somewhat drizzly morning cleared to blue skies just in time for a reception at the Cabernet Grill, which featured Far Niente Cabernet and Chardonnay and EnRoute Pinot Noir from our sister winery in Russian River Valley. Bites from the kitchen satiated hungry guests (pizzas hot from the pizza oven were extremely popular) before a concert in the Carriage House.
We’ve had the privilege of hosting many talented musicians and performers over the years, and Saturday’s guest artists were no different. Plain White T’s charmed the audience with their friendliness and skill, playing well-known favorites “1, 2, 3, 4” and “Hey There Delilah” and premiering songs off their new EP. (If the song “Should’ve Gone to Bed” doesn’t make you want to move, we don’t know what will.) The band stayed long after their performance to greet guests and take photos, capping off a memorable afternoon.
Here are a few photos from the day, plus a couple that capture a surprise gift Larry Maguire received from Live in the Vineyard on Monday:

Beth Nickel welcomes the guests, along with Live in the Vineyard founders Bobbii Hach-Jacobs and Claire Parr.
Hospitality Administrator and Wine Club Liaison Donna Blevins poses with 2010 Americon Idol runner up, Crystal Bowersox, who was a guest at the concert.
Live in the Vineyard's Sean Walsh Ramm and Jamie Reynolds presented this guitar to Larry Maguire–signed by all the musicians who performed over the weekend. What a great gift!
