Vineyard Notes

The 100-acre Martin Stelling Vineyard, located behind the winery in Oakville, is the cornerstone of Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon. Planted on some of the most beautiful, gravelly loam soil in the Napa Valley, the vineyard uniformly produces wines with supple tannins, bright, forward fruit, and beautiful tannin structure.

Harvest Notes

After a relatively normal winter, the 2011 growing season started out with a wet and cool spring. The rains and low temperatures extended the time between budbreak and bloom. Crop yields were low for Cabernet because of the unseasonable weather during set, but fortunately this allowed the vines more ripening potential during the short and cool growing season. Early rains in October and mild fall temperatures forced a rapid yet extremely selective harvesting of all our Cabernet in just ten days.

Tasting Notes

The 2011 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon offers aromas of tobacco leaf, dark cherry, and a whisper of floral perfume. A silky entry leads to a juicy midpalate of red fruit and earth. Fine tannins carry a light briar note, lingering on an elegant finish.
