Its inaugural vintage produced a Chardonnay that's immediately expressive from the first swirl of the glass. This winery-only, single-vineyard Chardonnay is a pure expression of Coombsville with intriguing aromas of mango, dried pineapple, lemon zest, with hints of flint and fresh dill give way to a palate that showcases flavors of Meyer lemon, Asian pear, and limestone. The racy acidity lends great sense of freshness and crisp structure to the wine.

A mild March coupled with proactive vineyard management during the summer's high heat produced wines with balanced acidity and great flavors.

The 2022 growing season began with an exceptionally mild March budbreak. By May, vines showed strong shoot growth and average yields ahead of mid-July veraison. Proactive vineyard management, including shade cloths and misting systems, mitigated the impact of summer heat spikes, maintaining great quality. Harvest began on August 22, with grapes showing excellent balanced acidity, freshness, and great flavors. This careful management ensured an overall successful and flavorful harvest season.

Slow, even ripening for soft tannins and rich flavors.

Moderated by its proximity to the San Pablo Bay, Coombsville experiences less severe heat spikes for long, slow and even ripening. Wines from this region often show soft tannins, dark black fruits and refreshing acidity.

Harvested from Berlenbach Vineyard

Located on the east side of Coombsville, along the Vaca Range, the 17.5-acre Berlenbach Vineyard is named for Barney Berlenbach, who first planted the vineyard. Berlenbach has a western exposure with soils comprised predominantly of volcanic ash, gravel, and well-drained loam. The steep vineyard has slopes ranging from fifteen to twenty degrees grade that produce exceptional Chardonnay.

“Aromas of cheese rind, sliced pear and green banana followed by salted caramel and pie crust with a touch of wet stones. Medium- to full-bodied, crisp acidity with subtle phenolic tension in the mid-palate. Blanched almond finish. Nicely framed and rich. Drink or hold.”
