Vineyard Notes

The 100-acre Martin Stelling Vineyard, located behind the winery in Oakville, is the cornerstone of Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon. Planted on some of the most beautiful, gravelly loam soil in the Napa Valley, the vineyard uniformly produces wines with supple tannins, bright, forward fruit, and beautiful tannin structure.

Harvest Notes

The 2010 growing season started off with an El Niño winter, as the earth soaked up much-needed rainfall. The spring that followed was cool, yet damp, which helped keep the frost at bay and slightly delayed ripening. Summer, too, started out very mild but warmed in late August. A warm and dry start to October helped complete Cabernet ripening, and we brought in the fruit before the fall rains. Hand sorting in the winery maximized our ability to select the best fruit from the harvest.

Tasting Notes

The 2010 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon opens with boysenberry aromas combined with rich, toasted oak and a hint of espresso. The entry is layered and juicy with a velvety midpalate. Round, coating tannins and cherry fruit lead to a lingering and youthful finish.
