Vineyard Notes

The Martin Stelling Vineyard, located behind the winery in Oakville, is the cornerstone of Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon. Planted on some of the most beautiful, gravelly loam soil in the Napa Valley, the vineyard uniformly produces wines with supple tannins, bright, forward fruit, and beautiful tannin structure.

Harvest Notes

After a beautifully wet December, the new year began with a warm and dry January. A little rain fell in February but overall dry conditions continued into spring. An early budbreak was followed by cool and breezy spring months. This weather extended bloom and set, leading to some variability and lower yields. The drought conditions were further exacerbated in the summer with hot temperatures reaching 100+ degrees in June, July and August. A quick Cabernet harvest started early on September 12 and finished on October 1. Undeterred by the challenging weather conditions and small crop, were still able to capture the concentrated flavors of our estate-grown fruit at ideal ripeness.

Tasting Notes

The 2015 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon has deep concentrated aromas of chocolate-covered cherries alongside bright floral notes. The entry of this wine is juicy with a silky-smooth texture that builds through the mid-palate. Mouthwatering dark cherry flavors are supported with well-integrated oak. This wine is an excellent balance of lush, mouth-filling tannins and bright, fresh acidity on the finish.
