When Bella Union opened in 2024, its snazziest feature seemed to be the “floating jewel box,” a glass-walled room that juts out with sweeping vineyard views. But the only way to experience the jewel box is to pay for a $175 tasting. And it turns out that’s just fine, because Bella Union’s other tasting options and spaces are delightful, accessible and, honestly, a bargain on this stretch of Highway 29. More modern-feeling than its owners’ other wineries, Far Niente and Nickel & Nickel, Bella Union has a groovy, light-filled tasting room with gold curtains and an expansive courtyard modeled on an Italian Riviera terrazzo.
The standard tasting ($45) invites you to choose four pours from a list of 10; don’t miss the Bianco, a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillion and other whites, or the blueberry-forward Liaison, a Malbec-Cabernet Sauvignon. During a daily happy hour from 4-6 p.m., Bella Union serves wines by the glass at the bar outdoors, as well as juicy spritzes, both wine-based and nonalcoholic.
