Late 2011 budbreak, cool spring, and mild summer led to Botrytis and a late harvest.
The 2011 growing season began in April with a delayed budbreak following a chilly, rainy winter. A cool, wet spring slowed development, and bloom and veraison occurred later than usual. The mild, rainy summer led to a low-yield crop that fully ripened in late September. Early October rain triggered a significant Botrytis bloom. Harvesting of concentrated fruit occurred over six passes from October 25 to 29, just before a season-ending storm in early November.
