Offer a bold congratulations with this etched bottle of 2017 Far Niente Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon. Made from the finest blocks of our Martin Stelling Vineyard, this wine opens with aromas of mixed berry, chocolate, light earth and licorice. A thick entry, with mixed berry flavors, lush and structured midpalate with great backbone of coating, ageable tannin. Full and mouthwatering with flavors of plum, blackberry all the way through to the end. Layers of toasted sweet oak are well integrated, adding structure and support to the ripe fruit flavors.

Cold winter, mild spring, summer sun, and extended hang-time.

The year began with a wonderfully cold and much needed wet winter, followed by a mild spring. Welcome April showers following budbreak resulted in hearty vine growth that only accelerated with the summer sun. Temperatures finally cooled briefly in August before one final heat spike over Labor Day weekend. Cool weather immediately followed, giving us a short respite before starting our Oakville Cabernet harvest in the first days of October, and culminating before the month’s end.

Oakville is prized for its gravelly, volcanic soils, and enjoys the warmth of mountain-hugged valley and the cooling influence of the bay. These conditions combine to create Cabernet Sauvignons with elegant fruit flavors and supple tannins.

Harvested from Martin Stelling Vineyard

Situated behind Far Niente’s historic winery against the western hills of Oakville, this vineyard is named for Martin Stelling, the estate’s previous owner, who presided over what was considered the most extensive, elite vineyard in the world, including most of modern-day Oakville. Known for its richness and structure, yet remarkable finesse, both Far Niente and Nickel & Nickel source from Stelling to craft their stunning Cabernets. Surrounded by the famed To Kalon, Martha’s Vineyard, and Harlan Estate, this historic vineyard began its latest replanting in 2022 with the guidance of renowned consultants Thomas Rivers Brown and Garrett Buckland to ensure it remains a pinnacle of Napa Valley winemaking.
