The second vintage of Bella Union Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon is bright and complex showcasing sumptuous aromas of cherry cola and raspberry preserves. Lifted red fruit flavors encompass the palate, along with notes of oak dust, chai spice and pencil shavings. Incredibly balanced, this wine is weighty with soft, chewy tannins that are well-integrated and present an intriguing texture from beginning to end.

The 2019 season's late spring rains, nutrient-rich soils, lighter fruit set, and mild fall created an excellent vintage with exceptional flavors.

The 2019 growing season began with late spring rains during flowering and fruit set. Cover crops between the vines flourished, putting rich nutrients into our soils. Our fruit set itself was lighter than usual, resulting in exceptional concentration and retention of flavor and aromas in our clusters. Mild fall temperatures allowed fruit to mature fully, without being overly tannic nor overly ripe. 2019 was an excellent vintage overall that will continue to impress wine lovers and collectors for years to come.

Harvested from Bella Union Estate Vineyard

Fanning out around Bella Union Estate Winery, this vineyard is broken into almost a dozen blocks. Each block follows climate-smart farming practices that minimize water use, protect from overexposure to extreme temperatures and promote vine health and fruit integrity while maximizing grapevine health and flavor. The Bella Union Estate Vineyard is a western benchland site with gravelly loam soils that neighbors a protected wetland preserve. Cabernets grown here reward the palate with juicy, red fruit flavors, a polished, silky texture and a compelling cacao powder finish often referred to as “Rutherford Dust.”

“The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford) is packed with super-ripe dark cherry, chocolate, spice and licorice. Boisterous and racy, the Rutherford Cabernet is dialed up to the core. I would prefer to enjoy the 2019 over the next decade of so. Here, too, the style is very much on the flamboyant end of the spectrum. ”
