At Bella Union Winery, we believe the making of wine and the making of art are reflections of shared values: care, craft, and connection. Our Artist in Residence program invites renowned creators to immerse themselves in our landscape and community, translating inspiration into beautiful visual stories.

Each year, we invite a distinguished artist to immerse themselves in our estate, engaging with our winemakers, vineyards, and heritage to create a body of work that reflects the spirit of Bella Union Winery.

Born in Los Angeles and based in Guadalajara, Mexico, Eduardo Sarabia creates a richly layered world where myth, material, and memory converge. Working across painting, ceramics, sculpture, and installation, he traces the unseen routes linking Mexico’s landscapes—the Sierra Madre, Mazatlán’s coast, and the U.S. borderlands—to ancestral stories and contemporary life.
Blending autobiography with archetype, Sarabia transforms family legends and cultural symbols into reflections on trade, faith, and desire. His work has been shown internationally, including at the Whitney Biennial, Museo Tamayo, the Hammer Museum, and LACMA’s Phantom Sightings. He lives and works between Guadalajara and Los Angeles.

Harold Mendez, a first-generation American of Mexican-Colombian descent and acclaimed for his work in installation, photography, and sculpture, is Bella Union Winery’s first artist in residence. A 2024 Guggenheim Fellow, Mendez is known for exploring memory, materiality, and identity, with work shown at MoMA, the Whitney Biennial, and more. In fall 2024, he immersed himself in the Bella Union estate, collaborating with winemaker Brooke Bobyak Price to shape the winery’s visual identity.
