Just last week, on September 5, our harvest crew started bringing in perfectly ripe and rich Far Niente Chardonnay—a full few weeks earlier than we’ve seen for the last couple of years!
“The summer has been sunny and warm, steadily ripening the grapes, and the cool, foggy mornings have allowed the vines to recharge each day,” says Winemaker Nicole Marchesi.
As is our custom, the Far Niente staff gathered on the first day of harvest to share a toast following a blessing by Father Charles Garrity from the neighboring Carmelite monastery. This moment is significant for everyone at the winery, no matter their role in the winemaking process: a kind of Thanksgiving, a recognition of teamwork, a grateful nod to Mother Nature.
We look forward to sharing the 2012 vintage with you. In the meantime, there’s still some of the beautiful 2010 Far Niente Chardonnay remaining!
