Mother's Day Wines & Gifts Our Winemakers Love to Give, Serve and Sip

As Mother’s Day approaches, we turned to our Far Niente Family of Wineries & Vineyards' winemaking team to ask them how they say cheers to the women who love, guide, listen to and support them. From the Napa and Russian River Valley wines they plan to uncork on May 9 to the Mother’s Day wine and food pairings they treasure, they sound off on some of their new and time-honored Mother’s Day traditions.

"My mom loves Chardonnay, so I’ve already picked out a bottle of Far Niente’s 40th Anniversary vintage for her. The 2019 Far Niente Chardonnay is such an iconic Napa Valley wine. My wife falls into the Sauvignon Blanc lovers camp, so of course we’ll be celebrating her first Mother’s Day – we had our son last August! – with Bella Union Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc. It’s an estate grown wine from a very special Rutherford vineyard and possesses the most outstanding fruit profile: white peach nectar, cool minerality, and this really refreshing citrusy acidity. Perfect for spring toasting." – Joe Harden, Nickel & Nickel Winemaker

"Mother’s Day is all about lingering over a late lunch at home. We’ll either bake a quiche with garden veggies, or we’ll throw some salmon, asparagus and artichokes on the grill. We have three large artichoke plants in our front yard and they’re at their peak in May. We’ll open a bottle of both Far Niente and EnRoute Chardonnays and feast. I’ll also tuck away two bottles of Dolce Napa Valley for my mom and my mother-in-law. They both love Greg’s – our Dolce winemaker – late harvest wine. My mom also has a big soft spot for Greg, so giving her a bottle of his wine is extra special." – Nicole Marchesi, Far Niente Winemaker

"For my wife’s first Mother’s day, we plan to uncork several Far Niente Family of Wineries & Vineyards’ wines. We’ll focus on two perfect picnic wines, our Bella Union Sauvignon Blanc and EnRoute’s Russian River Chardonnay while picnicking in the rolling hills of South Napa. Once we make our way home, we’ll open and enjoy EnRoute’s Pinot Noir “Les Pommiers" with a pan-seared King Salmon filet. I imagine that a bottle of Nickel & Nickel or Far Niente Cabernet will make its way to the table at some point. I’ve been asked if this is her ideal Mother’s Day wine list or my perfect Father’s Day menu. And I can safely say, it’s both." – Michael Accurso, EnRoute and Post & Beam Winemaker

"Our family of four has a longstanding Mother’s Day tradition of going to Point Reyes National Seashore, usually Limantour Beach or Heart’s Desire Beach, for the day. We always expect to picnic, toss frisbees, fly kites, collect shells, and relax. We never know what to expect for the weather; over the years, it has been sunny and calm, hot and windy, overcast, freezing cold. We always pack the car for contingencies, however, if we open a special bottle of Far Niente or Dolce wine, it’s usually in the evening, after we’ve returned home from our adventures." – Greg Allen, Dolce Winemaker

"My mom was a longtime fan of Far Niente’s Napa Valley Chardonnay before I joined the Far Niente Family of Wineries & Vineyards team. And I assisted with both the 2017 EnRoute and Bella Union vintages before being promoted to Bella Union’s head winemaker. So I am incredibly tempted to give my mom the Epicure trio this year, as all three wines in this boxed wine gift have such personal meaning to us." – Brooke Bobyak, Bella Union Winemaker
