Golden brown roasted chicken with a richly fragrant glaze, yes, this Nickel & Nickel recipe for Fig and Syrah Glazed Chicken hits all of our winter menu high marks.
One of our favorite ways to dress up the dinner table, this elegant food and wine pairing is perfect for an easy, elegant Wednesday night supper yet special enough for a last-minute dinner party. It's also really fun to prepare! We love how it enhances the velvety textures and fruit and earth flavors of the Nickel & Nickel Darien Vineyard Syrah.
Roast easy (we couldn’t help ourselves), this holiday season.

The Darien Vineyard Syrah happens to be the only Syrah in the Nickel & Nickel Single-Vineyard Wine portfolio. The wine comes from a nearly 17-year old vineyard tucked into the gently rolling hills of the Russian River Valley. The soils are a mix of volanic ash, sedimentary soils and basic rock, and the clusters tend to be tightly packed. Each vintage is unique, however, there's a velvety texture and dark, almost inky, consistency to the fruit year after year.
The wine's dark, rich fruit, balanced acidity and integrated tannins make it a great food and wine pairing partner for a variety of savory dishes. In the past, we've paired it with grilled flank steak, sauteed pork chops, wintry Tuscan kale salads and even roasted salmon. Yes, we sometimes drink red wine with fish (This recipe really nails the pairing). Although it doesn't replace Napa Valley Cabernet as our favorite fall and winter red wine, there's something incredibly warm and inviting about a well made bottle of Russian River Syrah. The fact that the wine is incredibly food-friendly is an added bonus.
We farm just three and three-quarter acres of this 25-acre vineyard, so we never make much!
