Although Cabernet Sauvignon originally hails from Bordeaux, Napa Valley Cabernet receives global recognition for its full-bodied, fruit-forward style paired with undertones of spices, espresso, and warm toasted oak. Opening a bottle invites you into a boldly complex, yet beautifully balanced wine. Our Cabernet Sauvignon collection delivers that unmistakable Napa Valley experience: ripe, generous fruit; polished tannins; and the kind of depth that keeps you coming back, glass after glass. With medium to high acidity and robust tannins, our Cabernet Sauvignon wines pair perfectly with rich, savory steak and lamb dishes, as well as dishes with earthy mushrooms that impeccable complement umami flavors. Whether you crave the elegance of ripe plum and dark chocolate of the 2022 Bella Union or want to linger over a library release like the 2016 Far Niente Cave Collection, there is an expertly crafted Cabernet Sauvignon for the most deserving occasions.
Cabernet Sauvignon is the most widely planted red grape in the world and the signature varietal of Napa Valley. Its deep color, firm tannins, and ability to age for decades make it a wine of structure and quiet power. At Far Niente Wine Estates, Cabernet Sauvignon is the cornerstone of our portfolio, expressed across our family of Napa Valley wineries — Far Niente in Oakville, the single-vineyard collection of Nickel & Nickel, and Bella Union.
Cabernet Sauvignon is a dry red wine. During fermentation, naturally occurring grape sugars are converted to alcohol, leaving little to no residual sweetness. The perception of richness comes from concentrated dark fruit, oak aging, and silky tannins — not sugar. Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted to be full-bodied and expressive while remaining impeccably dry and structured.
Cabernet Sauvignon is best served between 55 and 60°F, just below room temperature. Serving at the right temperature, the wine’s aromatics, fruit, and tannin all come into focus. If a bottle has been resting in a cellar, give it 20 to 30 minutes to warm gently before pouring. If it has been sitting in a warm room, a brief stay in the refrigerator will accomplish the same in reverse.
Cabernet Sauvignon best pairs with red meat, aged cheese, and savory dishes. Dry-aged ribeye, braised short ribs, lamb chops, and earthy mushroom preparations are all classic pairings. The firm tannins in our Far Niente and Nickel & Nickel Cabernet Sauvignons find their counterpoint in protein and fat, settling into something rounder and more complete with each bite.
